This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an amazing and diverse bunch! Our school is racially very diverse. In addition over half of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and about 60% of the children have military parents. This means that one or both of their parents are often deployed and many of our students have to change schools often. While this can be challenging, most of the kids take these issues in stride and are a resilient bunch of young people. They love playing new games and trying to complete new and difficult tasks. My students like cheering each other on and watching each other perform when we play sports or participate in various physical activity challenges.

The students at my school are the best any PE teacher could ask for and I am truly fulfilling my dream in sharing my love for physical fitness with young people.

Each student has a talent or skill they love to show off. I want to help them achieve these goals to provide for each of their individual learning and fitness needs

My Project

I started an after-school running club that is gaining in popularity. Since many of my students' parents are often stationed abroad, I want a system of keeping track of all of the miles these incredible kids are running. I think it will make their parents proud and will also give the kids a feeling of pride and accomplishment when they are able to log into a computer and see how many miles they have run this year.

Systems like the EZ Scanner have increased enrollment in other PE teachers' running clubs and I hope the same will happen for my students.

After all, running more will ultimately lead to healthier kids who are better able to focus in all their classes and will also be better behaved at home.
