This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from various social economic backgrounds. My students come from low income families. They come from homes where parents are in the home, trying their best to raise their children in a neighborhood that has gang related problems daily. There are students that don't have either parent and are either with a foster family or with a relative. Whichever way my students come to class, they are eager to learn, which is why I wouldn't want anything more but to enhance their excitement for education through games and materials.
My Project
Toys? Yes!! Toys are a great tool to enhance and enrich students' learning across multiple subjects. The Magna Tiles and Magna Builders provide an open opportunity for students to use their imagination. Even the reluctant learner can find success in these tiles because there is no exact answer, just open ended fun. These tiles will serve many purposes in my classroom. One way is they will have a permanent home in one of my exploration centers. This means students will have an opportunity to spend time exploring these Magna Tiles throughout the day. Students will use their creative designs to build 3D objects and architectural buildings. Another way is the educational benefits these tiles provide. Students will be learning geometry, spatial relations, and patterns. In addition, students will be able to work collaboratively among their peers to create their masterpieces. Therefore, these tiles are not only beneficial in the students' education but for their social growth as well.
The Brain Box STEAM set and Budding Series set will add to the enrichment opportunity that will be provided for my students.
These will speak to the specific interests of my students: artists, engineers, chefs, scientists, problems solvers, and critical thinkers. I believe these resources will provide opportunities and experiences that my students may not be exposed to elsewhere.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
