Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Ours is a Title I school with a student body of approximately 70% eligible for free lunch. Actually, due to our population we are now able to provide lunch to eligible students at no cost this year. Our school had the good fortune to be rewired for Internet connectivity and we're fortunate to have computers. At long last, Panasonic has come out with a laptop called the "Toughbook". It's just the tool for use by elementary school students working with technology. No longer does the student or teacher fear delicate machinery breaking with this laptop. Kids can be tough on toys not to mention machinery and yes, they LOVE technology to use in project development. In a class of tech adoring fifth graders, tough love awaits the "Toughbook". It's a match made in heaven (or at least by Panasonic's Research and Development "R&D" team). We have signed up to receive seeds flown by astronaut Barbara Morgan on the STS 118 Mission and we'll be designing a lunar growth chamber that will need lots of research and creativity in design by our students. That's where the laptop comes in. This is just the tool to help us with our work, and its toughness will allow us to use it throughout the day without fear of where we take it (even near the cafeteria which is ALWAYS off limits for any technology). Imagine the possibilities without the anxiety or panic as students log on to develop web sites or communicate with our partners. No excessive repairs (cost of contracts for tech maintenance) or waiting for the laptop to be fixed. This machine can take it, and the students can take it from room to room as we move through the day. That means the projects will get done as we utilize our time efficiently without fear of dropping, bumping, or simply damaging the equipment. This laptop can even manage liquid spills, an elementary school student specialty. What a fabulous asset to any classroom to enhance 21st century learning without angst. We hope you agree and see the long term value of having durable equipment for continual student use.
