This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students with autism vary greatly in their conceptual understanding of math. Some children are learning to count with one-to-one correspondence; others are learning to identify number symbols. Many of my students are learning to connect number symbols with the quantity they represent. TouchMath conveys fundamental math principles through channels in which students with autism learn best.
TouchMath is a clear, sequential, scaffolded math program that has been proven to be effective in teaching students with autism.
This multisensory approach uses visual, auditory, and tactile-kinesthetic channels that will enable my students to learn more complex math skills at their own pace. You can provide my students with autism a chance to learn math in a way that works for them. We are requesting TouchPoint Posters to help reinforce the TouchMath touching/counting patterns and quantity/numeral association. The TouchMath Texture Cards will provide a tactile learning experience using entertaining images and shapes with textures - TouchPoints that build math concepts while encouraging sensory exploration. TouchMath’s multisensory approach and sequential strategy improve student math comprehension and mastery.
