Help me give my students sensory tools to help them succeed in learning.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Linsky's classroom raised $390

My Students
Our school is very new (this is our second year) and my students have all made the adjustment with pizzazz. They each have their own “quirks,” however I think that is what makes them so amazing. Please don’t use the term disabled to describe my students, they are all differently abled and have hearts that melt the Titanic Iceberg.
Working with students who have exceptional needs has been such a rewarding experience.
They teach everyone around them to appreciate what makes us all unique. Not everyone can be a doctor, lawyer, teacher, truck driver, chef or mechanic. They show us that it takes a little bit of each to make the world go around.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will benefit not just the students in my classroom, but students throughout the school who struggle with sensory issues. Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD are some major causes of students to struggle with the need to keep their hands busy, or have some way to help them cope with the stress they feel.
Using Theraputty, stretchy animals and textured sensory balls are a great way to help students calm themselves.
I have watched students come into my room feeling frustrated, angry and stressed out; after just by pulling and stretching putty, they are able to regulate their feelings.
Giving students options of various sensory tools will teach them a variety of ways to deal with the stress they feel. It can range from the previously mentioned stretching movements, to simply holding a weighted item. Today's students have so many more "things" to learn other than the traditional academics. I personally think it is imperative to make sure that we do all we can to foster those coping skills.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
