This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a math inclusion teacher in a rural high school. The school has over 1,000 students that range from 9th to 12th graders in courses from Algebra I up to Advanced Mathematical Decision Making. The math inclusion class setting allows students who need extra support, in math, to receive the services without having to be pulled out of the classroom. Current district data indicates that students entering into the 9th-grade struggle with mathematical problem-solving. As a new teacher, my goal is to increase student achievement in the math department.
My Project
My classroom is in need of tablets to obtain multiple ways of assessments in the classroom. More technology is the direction education is moving and this project is a great start.
There are multiple methods to show what you know that don't involve paper and pencil.
In our class were have the software to allow student to take quick assessments and longer ones, if needed, through the use of technology. Students can use their phones and tablets, if they have them, assess the assessme. The issue is that some students do not have assess to a phone or tablet.
I want my classroom to be inclusive. For the students who do not have the personal technoligy to use in the classroom, these requested tablets will fill in the gaps. Depending on the length on the assessment, the students would be able to rotate in and out on the tablets.
The tablets can also be used as a station. Whether is be a predetermined video, requiring notes, or other media, the tablets will be a great addition to our alternative methods of instruction and student engagement.
