Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners in a Spanish developmental bilingual program, which means that they are exposed to listening and speaking in English, but learn Spanish reading and writing first. These students transition into English reading and writing in second grade. My students attend one of the largest public elementary schools in Wisconsin, with nearly 800 students, 98% of whom qualify for free and reduced price lunches. As the second and third grade English as a Second Language Teacher, I help to bridge Spanish and English Literacy.
If you were to enter my classroom, you would hear students speaking primarily in Spanish, but as I enter the room students begin to shift to English!
They are bridging two languages to become future leaders in an ever-changing world and I will do all that I can to support them.
My Project
My English Learners will receive many materials for Distance Learning, including folders, notebooks, crayons, pencils, and instructional materials. The materials will help keep the students engaged and learning while at home.
It is essential that they have a place to store these necessary materials!
The canvas tote bags will give them a place to keep all their English as a Second Language materials oganized in one space, which they can easily find and use.
My English Learners will be so excited to receive their materials in these fun, vibrant canvas tote bags. It will be an exciting way to start our virtual new year!
