Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second graders attend an inner-city Title I school. At our school, all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch so they can focus on learning while they are in class. One third of my students are English Language Learners which means that on top of learning the content for second grade they are also working to master English. My students are fun loving and eager to learn, and I am just as excited to teach them this year!
My Project
My students love using technology! I try to incorporate it into as many lessons as possible, however I often have to struggle with my 6 old, outdated laptops. Every morning I spend time getting the laptops booted up and checking on them to make sure that they are still capable of running the programs I want my students to use for that day.
Even though the laptops are slow and they don't always work, my students love the computer station because they get to play games to practice the skills they are learning.
If we got the tablets it would mean that my lessons could be even more engaging and relevant to my students! I would be able to download special math and reading apps so that they could continue to build on what they are learning. My students would also become more technology savvy just by using them daily at the tablet station, which will help them compete in our increasingly technology based society.
