My Project
I absolutely love how energetic, creative, and eager my students are to move and learn through physical activity. My K–5 students thrive on teamwork-based games that promote not just fitness, but communication and cooperation.
Our parachute is torn and too small for all my students, but it’s one of the most loved activities in our PE class.
Over time, the handles have started to rip off, some of the seams are coming apart, and there is a large hole in the center. These issues make it difficult—sometimes impossible—for us to enjoy many of our favorite parachute games. When we try to work together to catapult balls into the air, they fall straight through the middle, taking away the fun, teamwork, and excitement that the activity is meant to bring.
Parachute play is pure magic in the gym. Who doesn’t love the parachute!? It’s one of the most nostalgic, joyful parts of PE—and it still brings the same energy and smiles to kids today. Seeing that bright, colorful parachute spread across the gym floor instantly brings excitement. It’s one of the most inclusive activities we do, and every child shines during parachute time.
Beyond the fun, parachutes are powerful teaching tools. They promote teamwork, listening, coordination, and even physical exercises like sit-ups, bicep curls, and locomotor movements around the circle while holding the chute’s edge. It’s an awesome activity that gets everyone moving and working together.
With class sizes of 50 to 60 students, we need a durable and larger parachute that can handle frequent, high-energy use. Ours has truly seen its better days, and we’d be so grateful for the chance to bring this beloved activity back to life in our PE class.
