Topographical Map of Florida End of Year Project

Help me give my students the supplies they need to complete their end of year project. They will create a topographical map of the state of Florida using model magic.

My Project

Our end-of-year project in 7th grade civics at Avalon Middle School will be creating a topographical map of the state of Florida. Students will use Crayola Model Magic and foam boards to create the map. They will color the clay using markers, mold the clay into the state of Florida to show the different elevations and major bodies of water, and put the clay on foam boards for display. The markers have already been purchased using classroom funds.

This will be an alternate assessment that incorporates STEAM to demonstrate their understanding of Florida Social Studies standards on geography and maps.

They will create an accurate map to display map features, geographical features, geographical landmarks, physical characteristics, major bodies of water, and major cities in the state of Florida.

Your generosity will allow our students to demonstrate their understanding of the Florida standards alternatively, as not all students excel with a standard paper or computer based test. This project will allow for our students to use their creativity to create the project, while also incorporating STEAM into the assessment. We appreciate your help in making this project come to life and allowing our students to demonstrate their knowledge of the Florida standards in an alternative and creative way.
