Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my class live in a diverse city: the Big Apple, New York City! They come from many different cultures and backgrounds and are excited to learn about each other.

My students are learning about social issues through reading various books.

They are learning about this topic through the Common Core standards and are excited to begin learning.

My students are at a critical turning point, growing from children to adults, and this is an important time to help them to develop skills such as empathy and awareness and to make life choices to help them be successful.

My Project

These books will help my students empathize and become aware of social issues. They are about to enter middle school, a new chapter in their lives, and these books will help give them the skills to do their best. They will be able to take on the perspective of the character and put themselves in their shoes. By Reading, they will also practice the skills that are taught to them each day during the reading lesson. This set of books offers a huge variety of titles for boys and girls alike. My students will be able to transfer their learning during writing when we are creating our own graphic novels for the very first time. Everyone will have a favorite and a book that they can use to help them on their journey.
