This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember the first graphic toon novel or book that you read? Think about how reading a different type of material for the first time made you feel! Visualize the anticipation, and the great time you had as you watched the characters come alive in a book. My students enjoy reading! I can only imagine how highly motivated they are going to be to read this graphic toon collection. However, my inquisitive students live in an impoverished urban area and most parents do not have financial resources to buy them a variety of engaging reading material.
As English language learners, incorporating graphic toons can be important in engaging students in meaningful reading.
I have been an elementary teacher in the Bell/Cudahy, CA for 26 years. I only have one laptop in my classroom. I would love for my students to have access to toon graphic books as way to motivate my readers and to better prepare them for the future.
My Project
My "bookworms" otherwise known as my third graders would love to get their hands and eyes on toon graphics. This year they have been building up their reading stamina skills. Help me make this project come alive.
They'll be so excited and motivated to improve their reading skills as they read toon graphics!
Their eyes will light up as they read about their favorite cartoon characters in toon graphics.
I am looking forward to putting a new genre of reading material in their hands and watching their joyous smiles as they read, and read! I envision them reading on the rug.
