My Students
I am an AIS teacher located in New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first, second, and third-grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning, but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.
When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.
It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.
My Project
My students are becoming incredible readers. They are reading everything in sight. However, I still have reluctant readers who cannot seem to find the type of book that interests them. Toon books would be the perfect enticement for these children.
Imagine the expression of the face of a six year old when he realizes that it is ok to read what is essentially a comic book.
I thrive to make reading fun, not work. Toon books will automatically lure children into reading. As a matter of fact, they will probably not realize they are actually reading literature that is written at their reading level. It is really an ingenuous way to make children want to read.
