Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
You'll be hard pressed to find students working harder under challenging conditions than my students. They are still young children. Most are not only learning what is expected of them for our state standards, but also learning English. They live in difficult situations and many face food insecurity. These eight-year-old children have faced more challenges in their young lives than most adults have done.
None of their challenges slow them down though!
They are thrilled to come to school, full of questions and wonders, and excited to learn together. Each day is a new adventure and new opportunity in their eyes.
My Project
My students have many skills and lots of content to learn this year in addition to continuing to grow as speakers of English. These books are designed to grab their interest and help them learn about history, different genres, and problem solving.
Graphic novels are often the books that inspire my students as readers, writers, and thinkers, encouraging them to take risks and grow.
This collection will support our content area learning as well as take my students far beyond that. These books will open up new windows for my students to understand the world around them and beyond them. We need this set of TOON Books!
