This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

So much of a student's learning takes place in a whole group setting. While this works for many, some students are unable to learn in this format. Working in small groups allows me to meet the specific needs of my students. We need an easel in order to effectively do that small group teaching.

My students live in high poverty and have limited English but none of these factors affect their motivation and desire to learn.

They come from all over the world. On average there are at least 7 different languages in my class. Their families are supportive but struggling to live in an expensive city in California. I am consistently amazed by the resiliency of these family to educate their children.

My Project

As fifth graders they are interested in everything! They learn best when they are able to voice their ideas, see the material presented, and physically add to the work. Being able to pull small groups of students to pre-teach or reteach a skill is vital to their ability to learn new material. Having a movable easel will allow this teaching to happen. Additionally, fifth graders are very good at teaching each other (often I think they learn better when a peer explains something then when I do). This easel will also serve as a tool for student to student teaching.

This donation would impact so many students.

This year's class is anxious for it, but also all of my future students will benefit from this. Your help is greatly appreciated.
