My Project
It takes many tools and materials to build a robot, from complicated industrial machines to simple tools such as wrenches and punches. Students learn to use all of these kinds of tools on materials from wood for prototypes to aluminum and polycarbonate for the final robot.
Our team will use these Allen Wrenches and other tools to prototype and build their robot at home in our machine shop, and then they travel with the same tools to competitions and demonstrations and use them to keep our robot in good working condition.
For our students to stay safe as they work on the robot, we must make sure to have tools that are in good shape and ready to use.
When students join our team, they have a wide range of experience with tools and machining. Many of our students join the team with no experience with building and fixing things, but they leave the team proficient in using every tool in our shop.
Learning to create and repair robot parts gives our students skills they can use throughout their lives. Many of our students go on to pursue careers in mechanical engineering, where it is important to have an understanding of how parts and mechanisms are made. Others pursue careers in trades where they can use their skills. For all students, having confidence in using tools is a valuable skill for adulthood.
