Tools to Help Young Engineers Build Their Own Toys!
Help me give my students durable tools like punches, scorers, and cutters for our Makerspace to help them grow the skills to design and construct as real engineers—without relying on pre-made kits to invent and create.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are incredibly motivated and inventive when using pre-packaged construction kits like LEGO and K’NEX, but to grow their capacity to innovate, they need access to tools to invent solutions—not just copy patterns or follow instructions. While these kits are engaging, they are costly and limited. By giving students the opportunity to build their own toys using real tools and materials, we’re helping them think more deeply, plan more carefully, and take true ownership of their creations.
Using punches, drills, and cutters, they thrive when they can design and build with their own hands!
With access to child-safe tools like Chompsaws, Crop-a-Diles, hand drills, low-temp glue guns, and materials such as balsa wood and foam core, students will be able to construct durable projects that reflect their creativity and problem-solving skills. They’ll learn how to make their designs come to life without the need for expensive equipment like laser cutters or 3D printers—just imagination and the right tool for the job.
These tools will transform our STEM Makerspace into a workshop where students become engineers, inventors, and confident creators. Imagine a hands-on environment where kids aren’t just assembling toys—they’re building futures. Please consider helping bring real-world making into the hands of young learners who are eager to explore what they’re capable of.
