My Students
Our school is located on the North Shore of Staten Island. 95% of my students are from low socio-economic homes and have been kept at home due to family members falling into high risk category for Covid-19. My students are eager to learn. They log onto our zoom everyday happy to see one another. My amazing students work together to help each navigate the features of Zoom. For example, one of my students took the lead to teach other students how to share their screen in order to help one another and to show their work. Also my students love when we host zoom lunches because they just want to see each other and have social interactions with their peers.
My Project
My 2nd graders will be able to use the supplies so they can be creative when trying to express themselves as writers. Students love to bring their stories to life by adding colorful drawings and writing across many pages sharing lots of details. My student will be able to create colorful books using the art supplies and paper. They will also be able to organize their thoughts in notebooks. In addition they will also be able to use the wipe off boards to quickly brainstorm and share their ideas with the class. Since many times the technology does not always work as it should. They will also be able to use the play dough to help unwind when they are faced with writers block.
While technology is great my student's have a difficult being able to illustrate their thinking.
Having some basic supplies such as paper and writing tools will help them feel more like they are back at school.
