Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Students, I serve are from all over the world. They have immigrated to the largest urban district in our state. They are a very diverse group of individuals. Several different languages are spoken by my students and their families. The amount of prior education they have received differs from student to student as some are coming from rural communities, refugee camps and others from cities around the globe. Our school is a Title I school in a low-income area of our city; I have twenty-eight students in my classroom. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day, during this difficult time the city and school are still trying to provide meals .

My students are very flexible, eager and inventive learners.

The majority of my students are below grade level and do not have the tools at home to catch up with their peers. They would benefit greatly from technology and innovative materials to help them navigate this new world of distant learning.

Many struggle to connect to the learning platform from their parents phone. The parents often work varied hours and the phone is not home during the school day.

My Project

Striving for equity among learners during distant learning. My low income students need tools to carry with them from school to home, as the learning environment is ever changing due to COVID-19. I desire to provide Chrome books for those students in my class, whose parents are considered essential workers, but are unable to provide all the tools needed for learning.

Students need technology to connect with their school, peers and me to continue their learning from home and in the classroom.

The Chrome books will be used during online instruction via TEAMS, for large and small group instruction, research and group work. Once we return to the classroom the chrome books will continue to be used for team interactions and small group learning. They will help us work together and still remain distant in the classroom.
