Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second graders will be finally coming back for in-person learning this school year! It has been quite a year, to say the least for these very young scholars.
They had to learn to navigate the world of Distance Learning, and learn to stay connected with their friends and learning community via Zoom.
A few things might be different this school year to ensure a safe return to school for all our students, but I am sure that this new group of second graders is looking forward to returning to their classroom to continue developing friendships, play with their peers, and learn from each other.
My Project
A primary composition journal is an essential writing tool for the very young writers in my classroom. Just like most writers, my students will use their writing journals to jot down ideas for possible writing topics, practice different writing strategies, and write their drafts.
At the beginning of the year, many of my second graders use the space provided on every page of their journal to draw pictures before writing, and as they progress through the year they use those same boxes for writing organizers.
A writing journal also helps my students to quickly get ready to write during our writer's workshop and avoid wasting time looking for a paper or a draft.
