My Project

As a 6th-grade math and science teacher at a Title 1 school, I see incredible potential in my students, but our limited resources often turn their curiosity into frustration. This project gives them the tools to move from passive learning to active discovery.

With your help, we can transform our classroom into a hands-on learning environment.

A digital scale is a cornerstone of this project. In science, it helps students grasp concepts like density and mass. In math, it's a practical tool for exploring unit conversions, data collection, and graphing. By measuring the weight of different objects, they can collect real-world data and apply skills like calculating averages and understanding variability.

Essential items like graph paper will help students visualize data, plot functions, and understand coordinate planes, a fundamental concept in 6th-grade math. This bridges the gap between abstract numbers and concrete visual representations. Simple supplies like graduated cylinders and paper clips empower them to conduct hands-on experiments, applying math concepts like volume, measurement, and data analysis.

The ultimate goal is to move beyond memorization. We want to build a strong foundation in measurement and critical thinking, showing my students that math and science aren't just subjects in a book, but exciting fields they can actively participate in.
