My Students

My students are 12- to 13-year-old kids who are navigating some of the hardest times in their lives. Middle school can be tough, especially with my students, who mostly receive special education services. I have the opportunity to teach 7th-grade math students who live in a small town of around 4,000. A lot of my students are from low-income homes with multiple children who are school-aged. This causes a burden on their families when it is back to school season. These students are driven and motivated to perform at their greatest potential as their nondisabled peers. My students are very quirky in their own little ways, which is one of the reasons I love them so much. They do stand out from my other kids with their large personalities. I have the benefit of teaching small groups which allows me to get to know my kids better. This allows my students to feel comfortable to learn and share any troubles they face in junior high.

My Project

Thank you for taking the time to read about supplies needed to help my 7th grade students. In this project we are requesting some wireless mouses for my students to use with their Chromebooks. I noticed that my kids who have dexterity problems struggle to navigate the online programs required of their education. We are also asking for a visual timer for my special needs kids to use during individual work time. My students will work for a certain amount of time and then will receive a small brain break.

Studies have shown that flexible seating can increase attention to individual work efforts.

Therefore we are requesting seats for my kids to sit on the floor. We also need play money so we can better learn.
