My Students
I am a proud teacher of second graders in an urban school district. Our school is tucked away in a neighborhood of single family homes and a few local businesses. We have a number of students that walk or ride their bikes to school with their siblings, while others ride one of four buses that transport students to and from school. Nearly 80% of our student population are from low-income homes.
As students return to the 2021-2022 school year, I want them to have quality headphones they will be able to use both at home and at school.
I want them to prepared for the possibility of learning at home and have the supplies they need to be successful.
My Project
A number of my students purchase their headphones and/or earbuds at a discount store. To our dismay, these inexpensive headphones are not effective as they are of poor quality. Earbuds do not fit my seven- and eight-year-olds' small ears.
My students have access to iPads on a daily basis, but they are missing a key component that helps them focus, headphones!
It is imperative that my students have quality headphones to carry out daily tasks in an effective manner. Students also use their headphones when not using their iPads. More and more my students have difficulty focusing and they use their headphones to silence the rumblings in an elementary classroom. These headphones will also be useful if students must engage in remote learning at any point of the school year.
My students are fortunate to be recipients of a 1:1 iPad grant, which allows each student to use an iPad to extend their learning. It is amazing what my students accomplish each day with these devices. Their creativity has far exceeded my expectations.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
