My class is composed of 50 bright students who are eager to learn. We are a Title I, inner city school, and 90% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. Despite their desire to learn, they are often faced with obstacles when it comes to financial support. Common school supplies such as, folders, crayons, pencils, etc. are sometimes hard to come by. Even working with the bare minimum, my students come to school with their best foot forward and an open mind, ready to learn.
My Project
Within my classroom, journals are essential in creating healthy learning habits throughout the year. Due to the financial burdens some of my students’ family experience, the likelyhood of them getting the essential tools are low. On a daily, journals are use in both science and mathematics to highlight important concepts and skills that are important during third grade. Without these key materials, my students are stripped of the opportunity to further expand their knowledge while completing meaningful activities. As a teacher, I do believe every child deserves a quality education despite their financial classification. Providing these students with these essential materials such as glue and journals will provide a spark that will ignite learning.
