I have the pleasure of teaching 28 of the most profound 7 and 8-year-olds on the planet. They continue to amaze me even from their homes. They reside on the Southside of Chicago and many of their parents are essential workers. As a result, many of them are waking themselves up, and pushing themselves to complete their assignments. However, you can still see the worry on their faces and through the words spoken during our morning meeting. Nevertheless, the two hours we spend together serve as a means of comfort and ensures that learning continues.
My classroom of 28 students is faced with the undaunting task of learning during one of the most difficult times in this world.
Yet, they continue to strive for greatness. My students have the amazing resource of being one to one with technology. Our school has prepared them for this moment, without us knowing it. However, there are resources that we could not foresee them needing.
My Project
My students meet with me each day for instruction for 2 hours. During this time of instruction, a dry erase board will help with engagement and to ensure comprehension, specifically during math. It will also help them during times of independent practice as they work through problems.
In addition, my students are also required to complete tasks, independently.
A timer will help to ensure that students are working for the correct amount of time and it will also serve as a motivator. It will also give my parents a resource to use to encourage work and to initiate breaks when needed.
