Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are amazing! They are excited about learning and the school environment fosters their desire to explore, experiment and take risks! When you enter the building you can feel the sense of pride that everyone from the students, to the teachers, administration, staff, and volunteers has for this very special place.
We are in an especially inclusive neighborhood that appeals to many new immigrant families.
Our school is diverse in all possible ways- from the languages spoken at home to the arts and culture that each family brings. We are so lucky to have this diversity as well as the varied learning styles our students have and as a barrier-free school, every child can thrive!
My Project
I am requesting books and activity cards to help my students learn self-regulation skills to manage their own emotions.
This pandemic has caused, as I'm sure you have felt, much trauma.
Young people in particular lack the emotional maturity to properly process the loneliness, repetition, and restraint needed for quarantine life.
Living in Jackson Heights, Queens, because of how rampant Covid-19 is there, has been especially trying for my students in particular. I am sure they will be better equipped to handle this pandemic given the skills these materials will provide.
