Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are wonderful students. They are so eager to learn. They adhere to classroom rules and generally stay on task. However, as we know, students today are under enormous pressure. The expectation set for students today is very high. Every year, students in my school are expected to reach the NYS goals for their grade regardless of the challenges that they face due to their circumstances. Many of my students have economic challenges and lack parental support. As a teacher, it is frustrating to know that many of our students are at a disadvantage, but must still meet their state standards and expectations. The reality is that not all students have writing material at home. I also have students with IEPs and English Language Learners.
These students need to develop and catch up to their grade expectations, and these materials can help develop their writing potential.
My Project
Having pencils, highlighters, erasers and a sharpener available for my students will help each one continue their learning. And, even though most of my students do have supplies, some of my students’ families struggle financially. I do not want them to worry about not having a pencil when they walk in, they will not disrupt students from learning to ask for materials, nor will they need to wait till their caregivers are able to go to the store to purchase supplies. Each one of my well-deserved students will be able to feel academically successful, and the only thing they need to worry about are the concepts being taught.
