Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Wow, the past 2 years have difficult for all students. My 4th grade students are much needier this year than any other of my 15 years of teaching. My students are struggling emotionally as they try to cope with trauma as a result of Covid and their home lives. Our inconsistent schedules due to smoke days and Covid exclusions have led to academic struggles as well. So, what can I do to help support my students? I strive to create a caring, comfortable classroom for my 4th graders to learn in and I’m looking to make our learning environment even better.

My Project

These items will absolutely fill a learning need as I implement more Social Emotional Learning content and student choice through flexible seating to build our classroom community and engage students in learning. We have a diverse student population and are a Title 1 school. The students deserve to see themselves represented in our classroom library books and have seating options. I know I don’t like being stuck in a hard chair all day! Covid has been a major stressor for my students and their families. I want to provide a caring, comfortable environment for my students.

5 SEL Competencies: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Responsible Decision-Making, Relationship Skills, and Social-Awareness.
