This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Last year's move to a new school building helped us see the potential of our new resources. I am eager to continue building on last year's foundation of inquiry and help a new senior class develop their skills of collaboration, exploration, and critical thinking. Many of these students have an interest in science or healthcare professions as a future career and my goal is to help this interest grow. I hope that these notebooks will become a valuable tool not only for their success in high school (and IB exams), but also for their future college classes.
This project is designed to help provide students with all the materials needed to continue developing their creative, collaborative, and organizational skills in science through the use of a personal science notebook.
In addition to continuing to teach 12th grade upper biology, I will also be taking over the IB Sports Science curriculum. I am excited to be able to provide students with tools to prepare them for the rigors of college and/or career.
Each item in this project has been selected after careful consideration of my past use of notebooks. In biology, students are provided a notebook to keep a record of their daily class learning whereas sport science students will have a binder available for their learning. This helps build the skills of organization and encourages students to keep past work in a place to be accessed for studying. Within the notebook, we are always using tape to attach our notebook pages and I always keep pencils on hand for students to write with. Additional materials in this project will be used for labs or for making our lab space into a welcoming spot for learning.
