Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 6th grade at a low-income public elementary school in Los Angeles.
My students are smart, funny, kind, and have wonderful hearts.
In 6th grade, it is incredibly important for them to have positive experiences that will influence the way they look at themselves, treat others, and develop a growth mindset for taking risks and learning. Many of my students face great challenges outside of school that they can't control. But what they can control is their learning and how they will succeed through hard work and determination. Even though they have challenges outside my classroom, they always bring their enthusiasm to learn and their drive to do better.
My Project
We are venturing into the land of non-fiction and my students are going to take a deep dive into writing personal essays and argumentative essays. The ideas will come to them, but will the stamina and love of writing propel them through Writer's Workshop?
Beautiful Injoy and Flair pens with yellow pads of paper are what's going to excite my students about the writing process.
As a writer myself, the joy of using a variety of pens and getting a fresh pad of paper is what inspires me to write stories, essays, lists, poems, and any idea that comes to mind. I want this for my students, and I know that it's not something that schools can provide.
