Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school ready to learn. Most work twice as hard because they have to conquer the English barrier. Their parents only speak Spanish, but they put them into an English class. They get excited learning information, so they can go home and teach their parents.

The majority of my students live with just one parent and many siblings.

They come to school with limited supplies. I have gratefully spent my money for them, but it is not enough. They smile when given a supply they can't afford. They are hard working children who have issues they can't control. My students come to school happy and hiding their home life with a smile. They are dressed in the same clothes they wear two or three times a week. They walk their little siblings to their classroom. They are proud of their recently built school. They pride themselves by having the only Green School in the area. Our school has solar powered lights in some areas and a water collecting tank to water plants.

My Project

My students can not afford buying pencils for the whole year, so this program will help with this problem. Our wall sharpener eats the little pencils my students do bring to school away. They spend a lot of time at the sharpener trying to get it sharp. They rather try getting a point by trying with their scissors. We live in a high allergen area with their homes being filthy, so my students are constantly sniffling. Only five of my twenty-two students purchased Kleenex boxes, so we are in need of Kleenex. My students have large families who can not afford buying supplies for all the siblings. They often share scissor and even ask to go to their siblings classroom to borrow scissors.

My students come with little confidence, so this project will allow them to feel good knowing they have what they need for the day.

Students will no longer need to look down at the floor for pencils when our custodians are sweeping. I have seen students steal pencils just to do work. Homework is often not completed because they don't have pencils at home. If they do complete homework, they usually forget their pencils at home. This project will alleviate there problems.
