Working on the school newspaper is one way that students become invested in the school community and find opportunities to be engaged at school.
My students attend school in a high-needs low-income urban area of New York.
Many of them are the first in their families to graduate high school and move on to college. Our school is working to prepare students to attend college and attain careers in a diverse fields. My students are enthusiastic about journalism and eager to report on local school and community issues. Unfortunately, our school does not have additional funding to support the purchase of new technology to improve the production of our newspaper.
My Project
With these new digital audio recorders, my students will be able to record interviews to practice reporting accuracy as well as create podcasts to share news with our school and community. They will give students the opportunity to use real audio equipment to learn fundamentals of reporting and journalism. In addition, the new toner for our printer will enable us to continue writing, editing, and printing our school newspaper. Finally, the new cases will allow students to carry their reporting equipment to ensure the care and maintain the quality of our equipment.
Your donation will help to further the publication of our school newspaper both in print and online.
By donating to this project you will help provide new technology and equipment for students who are excited about publication and looking for opportunity to practice reporting and learn more about journalism.
