This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first year teacher with little resources in my classroom. I teach fourth grade in a high needs school located in New York City.
As of right now, I have a small 3 by 5 rug in my classroom. The rug is dull and lacks the vibrancy that a classroom should have. Since my rug is so small, I am only able to give small group instruction. But I would love to have the whole class as a group on the rug while I teach my lessons.
Having a larger rug in the classroom will allow me to have whole group instruction with all of the core subjects. The rug will allow for positive student to student interaction as well as teacher to student interaction.
Your help in funding this project will ensure that my students are not stuck at their desks for 6 hours out of the day. The rug will make it possible for my students to hold their book club meetings and read independently in a comfortable environment. It will also allow me to teach while having my students in a closer proximity so that I can monitor exactly how each student is doing during the lessons.
