FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Horner's classroom raised $384
This project is fully funded
I am a first grade teacher at a Title 1 elementary school in North Carolina. I use many methods to teach my students. One thing that I have found that excites them about learning is to use the "neat" equipment called the overhead projector. This projector displays whatever is being presented onto a screen, so everyone can see the same material at the same time. The students love coming up to the overhead to write sentences, answer problems, correct mistakes, and any other activity that I put on the screen. I use the overhead daily in my room for every subject.
The largest issue with the overhead is the cart in which I have to sit it on. First graders are not very tall. Many of my students have to stand on their tiptoes or step up onto a step stool to see what they are writing or doing on the overhead. With the cart being so high, the overhead arm that sticks up is almost always in someones view of the screen. It would help my students so much if I had a cart that the overhead could sit onto that is much lower than the ones we have available at school.
Another problem I have is that the overhead I have to use is very old. It was probably the same one my teacher used at this school when I attended in first grade. (It even has my old teacher's, who has retired, name writen on the side.) As well as being old and outdated, it is difficult to get a good clear picture to project. It is very fuzzy!
By having a lower overhead cart and a new overhead, my instruction and the students' participation would be much more beneficial.
