Toner and DVD Cases Help My Creative Students Get Published!
My students need toner, photo paper, and DVD cases to print and share our amazing projects that they make throughout the year, like movies, and a play!
Imagine a great group of students who each write their own book, but don't have enough toner to print their book so it can be published. That's my students. Ready, able, creating, and in need of toner to print their work.
I teach is sunny Southern California at a Title I school.
A few years ago our school won a California Distinguished School Award because of our ability to integrate the arts into our academic curriculum.
I love teaching my 29 fifth grade students, a mix of gifted students, English language learners, students with autism, ADHD, proficient and struggling students too. We work together, honoring our different ethnic backgrounds - be it Hispanic, Filipino, Chinese, or other nationalities.
We work hard and create daily. We have fun while we learn. For example, math lessons might be noisy and energetic - because that is the way I teach and my students like to learn. Who knew fractions could be so much fun?
This spring my students are writing original stories that will be printed on special paper and bound in a hardcover book for free, thanks to the generosity of a great children's book publisher.
My Project
My students are excited to become published authors, but we just need one resource to help this project work - toner! We need toner for my laser printer so I can print my students' wonderful, original writing, and I need color printing cartridges so I can print their amazing illustrations and photos to accompany their book.
I have also requested some DVD cases so I can film our class play and burn DVD's. Our play this year is based on the story, "The One and Only Ivan", and my students are just beginning to adapt the novel into a play. We will write our own version of the story, cast it, add a huge circus scene, and present it to the parents and all the students at our school. My students will receive a DVD of their performance - I just need some cases to hold the DVD's!
I have also requested some photo paper so I can print photographs of my students when they dress up as the biographical character they are reading about. We have a green screen, so backgrounds will be fantastic!
These resources made seem basic, but they will help my students thrive.
I can't be limited to the one box of toner I receive annually from my school, and neither should my students.
