Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"You are a writer!" As an adult, what would it mean if you could be a published author? Seeing your work in print, for others to view would be an empowering, exciting event. My students feel the same way. They feel pride in their work knowing others will see it.
While I strive to limit the amount of printing I do, it's almost impossible to picture a school that does not have access to paper for projects or copies of articles or even just to get work done.
But our school will not have a budget for things like paper and toner.
My computer class serves as a conduit to the core content classes and I take it seriously, making the class as rigorous as I would want for my own children. One difficulty I encounter is a lack of high-quality reading materials. Students need access to supplemental materials that I can print out and paper will be necessary to provide those materials.
My Project
We print every day in class. I make copies of high-interest and high-quality articles and examples of poetry. Most importantly, students print out samples of their writing. Without toner, we aren't able to use the basic functionality of the printer.
I am requesting toner for our classroom printer in order for students to have access to a more print-rich environment. Reluctant writers show more interest when a copy of their work is published and the more students write, the better writers they become.
I know how odd this request sounds, but without this very basic resource, I don't know how to provide appropriate support and information to my students.
By providing this basic support, you will enable my students to continue to grow and learn.
