Tomorrow's Scientists Offer A Solution To Pollution Two!!
My students need hands-on recycling and ecosystem laboratory kits as well as supplies such as a compost kits with worms, posters, and more to study the chemical characteristics of recycled plastics.
Imagine trying to learn about 21st century technology while operating with a limited budget. It does not provide the best opportunities for my biology students. My school is in an urban high needs district and does not have adequate resources for my students who dream of going to college
My students are wonderful, creative people who, despite their situations, have a positive attitude in life.
The majority live in poverty and qualify for free lunches. They do not have background and exposure to best serve them when taking the NYS Regents exams. For the last two years, I was able to provide them with a science enrichment day at Cornell University. It was amazing to see my students working in world class laboratories. They loved it, and I believe it inspired some to pursue their interest in science. However, without the technology and supplies in my classroom, I fear that I cannot give them the best opportunities.
My Project
I am requesting hands-on recycling and ecosystem laboratory kits as well as supplies to study the chemical characteristics of recycled plastics. Students will be able to investigate physical and chemical characteristics of recycled plastics and design their own plastics for specific purposes. They will both nurture and observe the ultimate recyclers in nature, earthworms. Additionally they will create rich soil by recycling their trash into the earthworm bin.
I hope to educate my students in ways they reduce waste in their community. Earth Day, with its goal of reducing waste, has inspired me to write this proposal.
As achievements in engineering and manufacturing move us toward 21st Century lifestyles, problems emerge as a result of these processes and cleanup concerns plague us.
There are innovative, yet natural, solutions for the cleanup of polluting by-products and I want my biology students to learn about them.
Please help me inspire my students to begin a lifelong habit of recycling and reducing waste. I want to make a difference in their lives for years to come. Thank you for your consideration.
