My Project
My students are currently learning how to analyze story structure and character development. The Tomie dePaola books are great for this task because of the amount of stories he has created for each character he has developed. Strega Nona, Bill and Pete, Jamie O'Rourke, the Barker Twins, and Tomie himself are lovable characters that my students will enjoy reading about.
One of my favorite things about Tomie dePaola books is that his writing style and illustrations are accessible to all types of readers. They are readable for most of my second graders and when they are not, the pictures tell the stories just as well. I look forward to reading these books with my students and talking about the characters and the adventures they go on.
