Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have missed 10 weeks of instruction. That's a big deal when students are just learning to read. Many of my students are also English language learners and do not have learning support at home. Some do not even have Internet access.
It is important that my students have access to books on their reading level so they can continue to practice reading skills they have learned at home.
My Project
Many of my students lack appropriate level reading material at home. During this time, with no access to the school or public libraries, it is especially important to get books into the hands of my students.
Each child will receive a book, with easy text to practice reading skills I've taught them during the school year.
These books are written in a fun comic book format. Students will also receive a Guide to Comics that will help parents know text features to help their children identify. Older siblings can enjoy the books as well, and even help teach younger siblings with these materials.
