Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a new teacher in a Title I school district. Most of my students are English Language Learners (ELL) and live in poverty. Despite my students hardships, they come to school each day ready to learn. The reason I joined DonorsChoose.org to furnish my classroom with books for my students and their families to enjoy. I implement a weekly reading log for my students, however, there are not enough books to go around in my room. Since most of my students are ELL, I would like to expose them to classic books they can enjoy.

My Project

By supplying these books to my classroom, my students will have a variety of books to read during independent reading time and at home. This will also give the students an opportunity to expand their English vocabulary, as well as their parents. Our school expectations are caring for others, caring for self, and caring for the environment. Part of caring for self includes having the opportunity to read a new and exciting book after school. I want to fill my bookshelf full of new and exciting books to expose my students to. As a new teacher, I would be very grateful for any donations to my classroom library project.
