My Students
I am so excited to teach this group of kids! I was their 2nd grade teacher and now get the opportunity to teach them again in 4th. They are spunky, fun, risk taking, passionate learners who enjoy the crazy educational ride I take them on. They are excited to come to 4th grade and experience an innovative and collaborative classroom. They want to be doctors, scientists, astronauts and are looking forward to being in a classroom that is based on problem solving skills to help them toward their dreams.
My Project
I began teaching five years ago. I never wanted to do anything else. From the time I was a little girl, I lined up my dolls and taught them all about being five. This has been, and will always be the only field I want to work in. For that purpose, every year I look at how I have taught and I study the trends around us and I decide what I am going to change.
This year I took a huge leap of faith, got rid of my desks and chairs and decided to go on a new journey in my classroom.
With the help of my students and my administration we designed the type of classroom THEY want to learn in every day. Now, I'm requesting four Comfort Foam furniture chairs. With the new design of my classroom, and the restructuring of the way I teach, I am encouraging students to become problems solvers at nine years old. The unique design helps students collaborate on work in a more relaxed setting and the design is easy to maneuver from one task to the next. These chairs will help create a meeting workspace when students need to collaborate on projects, conduct literature circles and have discussion.
One of the biggest motivations for this is the idea that when my students graduate from college 80% of the jobs they will get do not even exist yet. As a teacher I thought how in the world do I prepare kids for something that doesn't exist? It turns out, I can't, but I can teach them the skills they will need to be successful at ANY of those unknown jobs. The number one skill employers will be looking for is someone who knows how to problem solve.
Please consider donating to our classroom, after all, these kids are your future!
