My Students
Most of my students are first generation immigrants from countries all over the world. Many face daily challenges such as conquering language barriers and adjusting to life in a new country all before even thinking of the everyday stress of being a middle school student.
All of my students are reading below grade and unfortunately many do not receive sufficient academic support at home.
I'd like to help shape not only their imagination, but increase their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension skills as well as overall love for reading. I am hoping for a variety of books so my students can explore different genres they may not have access too. By exploring a variety of genres, they will be sure to find something of interest, on their reading level and deepen their love for reading!
My Project
My students need a variety of choices at their level of reading to hold their interest, and also feel challenged. The storage bins will allow my students to keep their books, clean and safe when transitioning around the classroom, during independent reading, small group or when they've completed their assigned work.
Many of my students don't have the opportunity to obtain independent reading books outside the classroom, which will often discourage them from reading.
Having these books will allow the students to strengthen their reading skills within the classroom, as well as provide the availability to sign out books and continue their reading experiences outside of the classroom will allow these children to grow and strengthen their skills.
