I teach at a Title 1 school in Washington, DC where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Every Thursday my school provided a food pantry for the families of our students. Despite their young age, some carry heavy loads. My students arrive at school ready to learn despite the many challenges they face in and out of the classroom.
My students are beginning to learn the foundational concepts of math.
We have started teaching the foundational concepts visually. When using visual learning, my students will be better equipped to tackle unfamiliar math problems, recognize patterns, and build conceptual understanding.
Many of them are still working on mastering their numbers and holding a writing (3-point grip). The learning tools listed in my project will help my students building a strong mathematics foundation as fine motor skills while in a distance learning environment (virtual learning).
My Project
In my Prekindergarten classroom we study different topics throughout the year from trees, music, exercising, and balls.
I have found that the best way for a child to learn is through hands-on and real-life experiences.
The Amazon tablets will allow students to collect and share their life experiences while learning about new topics through research. The use of technology will increase their language, cognitive and critical thinking skills. There are many programs that our students can access online to help support learning. Unfortunately, our youngest learners do not have access to technology in the classroom.
