This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The first grade students whom I teach are amazing! They love helping others; my goal is to help them the best I can! My students come from diverse backgrounds, many of which are ENL students who have limited exposure to language at home. My students have been working hard, but they are reading and writing significantly below grade level. I would like to focus on continuing to improve their phonological awareness, especially because this is a major component of an effective literacy program. This project will enable me to purchase resources such as rhyming activities, blending and segmenting activities, engaging games, and decodable readers that I can use with my kiddos to help improve their language development. This will help create a foundation that these students need as they will soon enter the upper grades.
