Help me give my students hands-on materials for our daily guided reading groups.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. T.'s classroom raised $358
This project is fully funded
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school district, I see that my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. We spend a big part of the day together, and one of my goals is to always provide them with authentic, meaningful experiences on a daily basis.
My students are inquisitive, curious and very eager to learn.
They love to learn about new things and especially love hands-on activities. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Unfortunately, some of these things may prevent them from acquiring the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk into my classroom, my job is to not only teach them but to make their day a memorable one. I want them to leave my class on a daily basis thinking learning is fun!
My Project
I am a kindergarten teacher with a "literacy" background. In my classroom there are a variety of learners. Regardless of the childrens' levels, guided reading is a very important part of our day.
I want every single one of my students to develop a love for reading.
I work with my students in a small group every day. I teach them the skills and strategies needed to become fluent readers. I also focus on sight words and phonics during my guided reading groups. Having these materials in my classroom would be a huge asset. The children will get to have daily practice using the phonics word builder and the all in one magnetic writing center after each lesson. The giant magnetic board will be used for me to support my students' learning during the guided reading lessons. I have a lot of visual learners so this board will help to keep them engaged. These materials would help my guided reading groups run more effectively and provide my students with more visuals and hands on experiences to help them succeed.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
