This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My name is Chantal Adams and I am the 7th Grade Social Studies teacher at my middle school in Los Angeles, CA. I believe I have the kindest, brightest, and overall best students in all of Los Angeles, better yet, in all of the world! They come from the low-income neighborhood of Pico-Union where many receive free or reduced lunch. They are trying to figure things out for themselves, while still wanting the guidance from the adults they trust in our building. They want to be successful in life and that is evident in the way they work hard and through their love of reading.
My group of amazing young people need a champion.
I would do anything possible to be that for them everyday! They trust that I want the best for them, so they give me the best of themselves in return. My students know coming from the inner city means they have all these factors actively working against them and its that much more important to show up everyday to school ready to give their all. Their little smiles truly warm my heart!
My Project
My students understand the importance of reading and they know reading grows their brains in a big way. The only issue is, my class library is not reflective of books they want to read. It is a struggle everyday for them to pick books they enjoy and I want them to feel joy while browsing books in my classroom library.
My class is made up of extremely bright, fun loving, and eager to learn kids who want to change the world!
With these books my students will improve their reading levels and do better on their statewide testing this year!
