My students need books to have read to them, to look at and to read, including Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and Where the Wild Things Are.

Let the wild rumpus begin!
The wild rumpus may take place in Where the Wild Things Are, but this also describes my classroom on some days. A wild rumpus of learning! I teach 13 kindergarten students in a low income school. I have the responsibility to creatively teach all subjects at a variety of levels.
My students are all learning at a variety of different levels. In our reading class we are learning about what an author and illustrator does. To help the students understand these jobs, I have selected a certain author or illustrator to highlight each month. The students listen to stories, complete activities and look at books written by the selected author or illustrated by the selected illustrator. This will also help these young children love not only books but the authors and illustrators who create them.
In order for our students to develop a love for these authors and illustrators, our class needs books created by them. Once the students get to know some of the stories by our spotlight authors and illustrators, the children will begin searching for more books by those same people. Soon a relationship will develop between the child and the books!
With your help my 13 eager kindergarteners will be able to form a relationship with creators of wonderful stories. The best part is that this year long project will help these children become familiar with some of the best children’s authors and illustrators. This familiarity will help these children develop a love for books, reading and favorite authors and illustrators.
