Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our middle school students are readers, writers, historians, scientists, mathematicians, and artists. To become the future leaders and innovators of our world, they need to be able to communicate effectively and understand different perspectives. Reading helps them to do this and more.
My 8th graders are a diverse group of learners.
They attend a middle school in an urban neighborhood with a high rate of poverty. Many of them do not have the same advantages as some of their more affluent peers. They need the resources to make sure they can achieve as well as any other student.
My Project
“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” – Margaret Fuller
My students are the leaders of tomorrow.
They need a wide range of reading materials to not only become better readers and writers, but also become more empathetic people. Studies have shown that those who read literature have more empathy. If we are to create a better world for future generations, we need leaders to care about others and understand multiple perspectives.
By giving students a variety of books to choose from they will improve their reading skills which in turn will help them improve their writing skills. Having access to books also means they will have access to the world around them and worlds beyond their imagination.
