My project needs thirty $10.00 gift cards to Barnes and Noble.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. T.'s classroom raised $396
This project is fully funded
I am a 3rd Grade E.S.L teacher in the Bronx. The majority of students in this school are eligible for free lunch.
I teach children who have recently moved here from other countries and are still learning how to read, write and speak in English. They are very motivated and have developed a strong love for reading up to now. Due to a lack of transportation and the language barrier, the student's families are unable to take them to the library or to the local bookstore. The books the students are currently reading come from our classroom library. Unfortunately, these books can't be taken home since they are considered school property.
I would like to continue encouraging the children's love for reading by taking them to Barnes and Noble to pick a book of their liking. I believe this book will constantly remind them of the importance of reading and of course will support them in making reading a habit. This is also a resource they will be able to take home and read constantly.
By funding this project you will give these wonderful students not only an opportunity they may not have again, but one they will certainly cherish.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
