My Students
"You are never too OLD too WACKY too WILD to pick up a BOOK and read to a CHILD!"
~Dr. Seuss
Our students need literacy more than anything and our teachers and volunteers will give them exactly that during this festival.
My students are amazing!
They come from diverse backgrounds but all have some sort of need whether it is language, academic, or income. They are so loving and eager to learn and we may be the only place they can feel safe sometimes. They grow so much from the beginning of the year. Our students who come in speaking no English leave us ready to take on Kindergarten and have learned so much that will carry them throughout their elementary years. They are excited about every single day and that makes me want to do everything I can for them.
My Project
My students will be using these materials during the Storytelling Festival. This will be the 3rd annual and this event encourages students to read and improve their literacy while having a fun time. Some of these children do not get new books at home and the only ones that they use are the take home readers from school. The students will be so excited to get their very own books and to be able to participate in all of the activities that we have that day. We will have volunteers who will give their time to read to the students, paint their faces, help them with crafts and of course, give them a snack. These materials would be so appreciated by the teachers and the students to make our festival a success and continue encouraging parents and children to read every day.
These donations will make a world of difference to these students.
For each of them to have their very own book to take home and keep is something very special. Some of our students may not get to do activities like this at home or with family and this is an experience they will remember. They will have fun while being encouraged to read and understand how important literacy is.
